Consent Academy needs you!

Consent is a huge thing that’s being talked about right now, and it’s not even close to big enough. Talking about it is not enough and we’re setting out to do more. This is your chance to be a part of that.

The FSPC is organizing the Consent Academy. This will be a group put together to teach about Consent for individuals, schools, and organizations. We are also working to expand the amount and caliber of Consent Education being provided. We are starting here in Seattle and plan to move out from here.

We are looking for a group of eight dedicated volunteers to get this program up and running as quickly as possible. Our goal is to have a working group creating new curriculum and taking contracts by November of this year. If you are someone, or if you know someone, who would like to participate details on how to apply are listed below.

blessingPositions we are looking to fill:

  • Outreach Coordinator
  • Internet Presence/Social Media Coordinator
  • Curriculum Coordinator
  • Consent Curriculum Creators
  • Consent Educators

What we expect from applicants:

  • A minimum of 12 hours of work in roll per month (probably more for a few months)
  • An ability to attend monthly group meetings (preferably in person)
  • A dedication to understanding consent and its complexity
  • A dedication to modeling consent and consensual behavior
  • A willingness to work in a collaborative environment
  • Flexibility in roll and duties

If you are interested please send a letter of intent stating why consent work is important to you, how you believe you would fit into our organization, and your willingness to commit to this crusade. Include a current resume and how you would like us to contact you. Applications can be emailed to [email protected]. We expect to be doing interviews the first week of October.

If you have any further questions, let us know. Also, we are working to put together a list of organizations that need, want, or would benefit from Consent Education. If you know of any such places, please let us know that as well.

Best Regards,

Sar Surmick

A Letter from the Director

Moving/Building Update

The last few months have been overwhelming. The task of moving two organizations from their home of 17 years was a daunting task. One I am very proud to announce has been accomplished. All of our possessions are packed away in storage, awaiting out new home.

We don’t have any concrete news to share about the building search. I am pleased to say that we have found a building that meets our needs enough that the FSPC and the CSPC are preparing to enter into negotiations. I’m not at liberty to say much more, other than I should have more definite news at the beginning of October. Your good thoughts are appreciated.

Education Program

In the mean time, we are using a variety of venues for the workshops we present in the coming months. Public library meeting rooms and Club Sapphire, located in Tukwila, WA, are the main locations. Please be sure to check the location of each workshop.

DSC_8728 cropWe are very pleased to be working with the folks at Club Sapphire to use their beautiful space for workshops. (The CSPC will also be hosting a few parties per month there, too!) Club Sapphire has a very strict confidentiality policy that will be familiar to everyone who has attended an event at the Center for Sex Positive Culture. The policy requires everyone who enters Club Sapphire to keep in confidence who and what they see and hear while at the Club. There will be a sign-in sheet at each workshop with the short form of the policy and a release for each attendee to sign as they enter, for each workshop attended.

The bi-monthly Consent for a Sex Positive World workshop was held in the Seattle Library’s Broadview Branch on September 15th. It has been decided that this workshop will continue to be held in Seattle public library meeting rooms, even after the Foundation settles into a new home. By holding the Consent workshops in Seattle Library branches, we can open the workshops to those under 18. The current plan is to rotate locations around the greater Seattle area to make these workshops as accessible as possible to all.

On Monday, September 26th, we are holding a Consent Policy Forum at The OK Hotel in Pioneer Square. This is a chance to hear how we came about our new Consent Policy and Procedures, how we plan to develop it more, and for us to hear your feedback. Please join us in this important discussion.

Books-MenFSPC Library

Our Library is closed until we get a new home. If you still have library materials in your possession, you can return them under our Fee Amnesty to:
FSPC Library
c/o Lisa Rogers Lowrance
12530 206th Pl. SE
Issaquah, WA 98027

We have many exciting plans in the works for our library, including expanding into loaning e-books. To help these plans become a reality, donate directly to our library via our secure online store.

Support, Enthusiast, and Discussion Groups

seduction-instagramMany of our groups are still meeting at other locations in this interim period. Other groups are choosing to go on hiatus until a new home has been found. You can refer to the Monthly Events page to confirm if a group is on hiatus or still meeting in an alternate location. The official FSPC and Google calendars are up to date with locations and contact info.

Luckily, there is much that is going on as normal. Seduction, Seattle’s sexiest Halloween party, will still be happening at the Seattle Center’s Exhibition Hall on Saturday, October 29th. We are working on a deal with the Men’s Wearhouse for a discount for Seduction party-goers for renting or purchasing tuxedos from their formal wear division. You may have noticed our vampiric queen of the night model for the Seductions ads, and we figured that tuxes would make an amazing basis of more than a few costumes. More info as we have it.

sewtwisted-logoFor myself, I am commissioning a costume from Sew Twisted, the incredible seamstress who created the costume in our Seduction ads. Sew Twisted is having a fashion show on Thursday September 22nd, if you need inspiration or are looking to purchase one of her looks.

Thank you!

Whether you bought a ticket to an event, made a donation, or volunteered, I am incredibly grateful for your interest in this organization. This has been a tough time period and now its going to get better. There are exciting things afoot! I appreciate you for being a part of my community and helping make wonderful, shameless things exist in the world!

Yours in art and education,

Sophia Iannicelli

Tanya has been an influential part of the Seattle circus scene for 10 years, after having trained most of her life at the nation’s top ballet schools including School of American Ballet (NYC), San Francisco Ballet School, and Pacific Northwest Ballet, for which she moved here on scholarship at 16. In her aerial career, she has toured in Ireland, instructed the circus staff at Club Med resorts in exotic locales, and has passed auditions for Cirque du Soleil, Dragone Productions, and Cavalia. A newcomer to burlesque, she has appeared with The Atomic Bombshells, collaborated with Verlaine/McCann Productions, and competed at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend (2015). She appears at events for corporate clients such as Microsoft and Google regularly, and holds weekly residencies at The Pink Door and Q nightclub. She has worked with local groups The Acrobatic Conundrum, The Aerialistas, and USC Events, and instructs privately at Versatile Arts and SANCA, where her students continually inspire her.

Be sure to eat dinner before arriving for your evening of spirits and cocktail tastings. We will have an array of desserts such as lavender shortbread, chocolate truffles.

To complement the spirit tastings, we invite you to enjoy an amazing array of Cacahuates, Cheddar Straws, Artichoke Truffles, and a cheese board with crackers in between tastings. Cheese nibbles generously donated by Daniel McGlothlen and Craig Williams, the former owners of Hot Dish.
