Consent Fest 2018

The Consent Academy Presents:

Consent Fest 2018: #ConsentIsEssential!

Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 at the Optimism Brewery
1158 Broadway Seattle WA 98122
6:00 – 9:00pm

It’s 2018 and a lot has happened. We’ve had thousands of women stand up and join the #metoo movement, significant political controversy, and more discussion about consent than we have seen, maybe ever.

So what’s next? How do you and the people around you practice consent in this climate? What can we do to #dobetter?

Please join the Consent Academy, the Foundation, and other organizations, for this FREE all-ages community festival celebrating Consent Culture and exploring these questions. We recognize your work in promoting a more Consensual world and are extending a very special invitation to YOU!

The Consent Academy is a collective of consent educators and experts. We are committed to building Consent Culture across the country through classes, workshops, and consultations for groups of all sizes; businesses, organizations, and individuals.

The event is being held at the Optimism Brewery. This is an all ages brewery that focuses on community. It’s even dog friendly. Signature brews will be available for purchase.

The night will include an opening welcome and introduction to consent culture. Our partners in consent will have a chance to speak if they so choose. Then we’ll have time for people to visit the tables and stations set up. And will cap off the night with a raffle and prizes.

We would love for you to come and help us promote Consent Culture. There are a variety of ways you can do that:

  • Partner in Consent: Join us “On Stage” to welcome people and talk a little bit about your organization’s commitment to consent.

  • Outreach: Set up a table for your organization to give out information about you and about consent and/or consent culture.

  • Consensual Support: Show up and support consent culture.

  • Spread the Word: Let people in your organization know about the event, encourage them to come, and talk about it on your social media and in your newsletters.

  • Spread Consent Culture: Talk about building a Consent Culture as a way to move through the troubling and difficult times we’re all facing.

Please contact the us at the Consent Academy by Wednesday, January 16th, as we have a spot reserved for you, but we need your consent to move forward. #ConsentIsEssential! .

If you have any questions, or need more information, please email the Consent Academy directly.

Save Your Shoulders! Alternatives to the TK/Boxtie ~Educator: Seattle Shibari
Ballard: $70 (Duo)  Advance: $60 (Duo)

The iconic Gote Shibari/Takate Kote/Box Tie is beautiful and restraining, but shoulder injuries and other issues make it unsuitable for lots of folks. Never fear, there are numerous beautiful ties that put the hands in front of the body and are suitable for both floorwork and suspension!

In this two-hour class, we’ll explore several effective, beautiful ties that dramatically reduce pressure on the shoulders and other parts of anatomy, making them much more sustainable for all sorts of rope bondage play. We’ll also learn tips and tricks for making your tying and bottoming more smooth, graceful, and beautiful. No pre-requisites.

Saturday, November 4 — 1:00pm
Kinbaku 301 Suspension Fundamentals: Side & M Suspension ~Educator: Seattle Shibari
Ballard: $110 (Duo)  Advance: $100 (Duo)

Learn & refine two classic, beautiful shibari suspension forms in a safe, supportive environment!

In this 4- hour workshop, we’ll do a deep dive into two beautiful, fundamental suspensions: Yoko (‘Side’) and M-ji(‘Letter M’) We’ll cover: Suspension mechanics; Troubleshooting body placement; Aesthetics; Top Line Management; Safety Issues.

Prerequisite: Top should be comfortable tying a basic 2-rope gote shibari (‘box tie’), and be competent in basic suspension line locking techniques. If they do not wish to use a box tie for the course, it’s fine to tie a hands-free chest harness, instead. Bottoms should be comfortable being tied in a gote shibari/TK, and be competent in monitoring themselves for nerve/circulation issues & communicating same to the rope top.

Parker RopeBoi returns to Seattle!

Internationally famous performer and educator, Parker RopeBoi returns to Seattle to grace us with beauty and shenanigans! On October 27th, at Seduction, Parker will be one of the bondage performers featured in the Big Top Room. On October 28th, we are hosting two workshops with Parker. Of course, Parker is always available for private lessons, so if you are interested in getting instruction specific to you, email us at [email protected] and we will connect you with Parker.

Friday, October 27 — two performances between 8pm & midnight
Seduction – Circus of Carnal Delights
Within SoDo: $90 – $175

Parker RopeBoi is an interdisciplinary queer scholar and performer, who is internationally regarded for original solo shibari performances and self-suspension techniques. Parker’s performance work articulates with issues of abject and queer bodies, and engages questions of social bonds, boundedness, and boundaries, and the potentials for their transgression or transcendence.

Saturday, October 28 — 3:00pm
Futomomo Variety Pack ~Educator: Parker RopeBoi
Ballard: $45. Advance: $32 (Solo) $60 (Duo) and $85 (Trio)

This class teaches a variety of different ties for binding a bent leg, ties that are often called a futomomo. The class presents the different features of these ties and relative suitability of these different ties for different applications, attachment points, and suspension positions, as well as for different bodies, physical preferences, and sensitivities. Participants will learn ties for attaching on the inside, the outside, and on both sides. Participants will also learn ties that concentrate the load on different areas of the leg, and how adjust that pressure so as to have a more comfortable (or at least less uncomfortable) futomomo.

Saturday, October 28 — 7:00pm
Predicament Play ~Educator: Parker RopeBoi
Ballard: $30. Advance: $22 (Solo) $40 (Duo) and $55 (Trio)

Predicament play often appeals to the more creative, quirky, and even ridiculous SM players, bringing out our inner mad-scientist sadists & James Bond escape artists masochists.

Predicaments tend to involve being between a proverbial “rock and a hard place” while trying to figure a way out (even when there’s probably no way out–just a choice between one sadistic trap and another). This class will present some general strategies and specific techniques for predicaments, risks and risk mitigation, ideas for how to plan and negotiate a predicament scene, skills for how to calibrate and adjust a predicament mid-scene, and some of my own favorite tricks and tools, including many “pervertables” everyday household items. A number of (what we expect will be highly entertaining) demonstrations of predicaments will show you some fun illustrative examples of ways to do predicament play.
