As you may or may not know, the 1600 block on the east side of 15th Avenue West is up for redevelopment. This block houses both the Center for Sex Positive Culture and Foundation Sex Positive Culture, the parent organization for Seattle Erotic Art Festival. As sister organizations, with a shared mission, we are more effective when we are sharing a space. We are pleased to work together in finding a new home.
Two weeks ago, the CSPC and FSPC came to an agreement with the new owners of our buildings to move out early. Our agreement includes a new move-out date of September 15, 2016 and a settlement to each organization for accepting the early termination of our lease.
While this does mean we will be moving sooner than we had planned, the settlement will help us act quickly when we find a building in the fast-paced Seattle commercial real estate market. This gives us a head start and allows us to move forward confidently while we continue to raise funds for building out a new space. We have looked at several buildings so far, including one that was promising but not quite right. New spaces are constantly becoming available, and we hope to be able to announce a good fit very soon.
Thank you to everyone who took either of the two building surveys. Sharing your thoughts informed our Joint Building Search Committee in prioritizing the criteria important to our communities. We are looking for a building, or collection of adjoining buildings, that are zoned industrial general or industrial commercial. We are focusing on industrial zoning to avoid residences, schools, and churches. Our ideal size range is 10K-16K sq ft. Accessibility and safety are primary concerns. Per the results of our member surveys, we will be looking for a building with good parking, on public transit lines, and that can support multiple events simultaneously.
You are invited to hear more about our building search at a joint Town Hall Meeting on July 23, 2016, 10am-11am, in the CSPC Annex located at 1608 15th Ave. W. Seattle, 98119. A second Town Hall meeting will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2016, 7-9pm, in the CSPC Annex. This is a special edition of the Big Idea Meeting.
This is an exciting time and we will be looking to you for help. Volunteering time and donating money are the best ways you can help us right now. Please look at your calendars and your bank books to determine how you are able to contribute during this transition.
Monetary donations can can be made online, in person, over the phone, or mailed. For more information about making a donation, Jeanette can be reached at (206) 270-9746 and Sophia can be reached at (206) 229-2185.
Donating to either the CSPC’s or FSCP’s general moving fund makes sure that both organization can transition smoothly into a new home. This fund will cover all associated costs of this transition, including but not limited to: tenant improvements; moving & storage expenses; special event rentals.

We are excited at the opportunity this transition affords us. We look forward to working with you to create our future!
